Indoor Air Purification Treatment Technology Chosen to Support NAVAIR Workforce Health

MARYLAND HEIGHTS, MO–CerroZone™ LLC announced today its leading indoor air purification treatment technology, CerroZone, has been included in the U.S. Naval Air Systems Command’s (NAVAIR) headquarters renovation, ensuring the new workspaces meet NAVAIR requirements for collaboration and productivity as well as workforce health and resilience.

CerroZone’s Mobile, Mini, and In-Ceiling units are designed to sanitize indoor air in buildings such as offices, healthcare facilities, schools, laboratories, residences, and other occupied indoor spaces. CerroZone units are integral to NAVAIR’s new operating environment – a post-pandemic headquarters office model employing activity-based design, with agile seating using “hoteling” to enable hybrid work.

These state-of-the-art air purifiers are also installed in NAVAIR headquarters Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility (SCIF) spaces as part of the first phase of renovation completed in November 2023. The spaces will be utilized by NAVAIR employees in a new way of working – in a completely new environment. These workspaces satisfy leadership’s desire for fresh, different, more functional, safe and productive work areas for NAVAIR personnel.

“We’re very proud to be part of NAVAIR’s highly innovative renovation,” said CerroZone President Susan Labadie. “CerroZone offers the Department of Defense a single technology to address numerous issues of concern. With CerroZone, the military can meet published indoor air quality standards to support the nation’s largest workforce, eliminate black mold, and make its forward operating facilities more resilient.”

CerroZone’s technology achieved a 99.998 percent reduction of live SARS-CoV-2 Delta Variant in a single pass of approximately 1.2 seconds, according to independent testing at MRI Global in Kansas City. CerroZone has earned 510(k) Class II medical device clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration as a recirculating air cleaner for eliminating airborne viruses and bacteria. FDA approval was contingent on extensive testing at accredited independent third-party facilities.

CerroZone previously announced it completed compliance testing to meet ASHRAE Standard 241-2023, Control of Infectious Aerosols. During this testing, the CerroZone units demonstrated efficacy against MS2 Bacteriophage, formaldehyde safety, and particulate matter (PM) count in a chamber larger than 1,000 ft3 at an independent, highly respected third-party laboratory – ARE Labs in Olathe, Kansas. CerroZone has also achieved Intertek’s Zero Ozone Certification at a level five times lower than the UL 2998 requirement.

CerroZone has also successfully completed extensive independent testing for the removal of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and black mold. CerroZone’s ability to eradicate mold has been proven in laboratory testing against live Aspergillus. CerroZone was able to eradicate Aspergillus mold in the ASHRAE 241-compliant chamber to a 99.99% reduction in less than 60 minutes.

Labadie continued, “The engineering and production capability exist to scale this technology small enough to place in an armored personnel carrier, or large enough for an aircraft hangar or similar industrial space. We are looking forward to teaming with the Department of Defense to grow this technology to meet its emerging requirements.”
